Everything We Know About Elzhi's New Album

Elzhi is a Detroit emcee, most known for his Illmatic tribute mixtape, some later work with Slum Village and a handful of solo LPs. He's remained relatively quiet since putting out Elmatic in 2011, but is now promoting his newest album due out this April.  He's an underground cat, who gained a lot of notoriety when he dropped Elmatic as a free mixtape- which went on to be one of the best bodies of work put out by any rapper that year. El is a dope rapper's favorite rapper, and honestly one of the better writers in the game right now.

We might be five months out from hearing Elzhi's new album, but he's already dropping some lyrical appetizers for the fans. Check out his first single below, Blue Widow:

The Kickstarter

'Zhi is not on a label (by choice), so he turned to Kickstarter to help fund his new album. His campaign wrapped up yesterday; fully funded with close to $40 grand raised. We don't know the official name of the new project, but he's bounced around names like 'The Feed' and 'The Weathermen' in the last few years. He posts a lot of album updates on his Twitter and Instagram, so that's a good place to check the latest news.

Elzhi's New Singles

To help fuel his Kickstarter, El's been dropping some ferocious singles like Pressure, Can't Lose and The Recap. If these early tracks are any indication of what's coming, we're in for another classic. Will Session's live instrumentation was part of what made Elmatic so great, and the fact that he's got Karriem Riggins on new track shows that he's not cutting any corners on the new material.

I'll continue to update this post as new details emerge, so check back in a few weeks to see what's going on.

Bottom line: If you don't know Elzhi, check him out. If you love real hip hop, support it.
